The Greater Lansing Area Club (GLAC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which serves the Greater Metro Lansing Area. GLAC is a member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC) through the North Central District.

Robin B. Owens, assembled interested women at the Riverfront Clubhouse in Lansing to begin organizing the Greater Lansing Area Club (GLAC). On July 28, 1982 the Club received its charter at the National Convention held in Washington, DC and became the last of fourteen clubs of the North Central District organized by Mrs. Lela M. Eaton. Charter members consisted of: Odean Bradley, Elizabeth Brewington, Carolyn Charles, Gloria Davis, Thelma Davis, Lela Eaton, Pamela Eaton Champion, Dorothy Hudson, Dorothy M. Hudson, Eloise Middleton, Betty Nixon Barry, Louise Rhodes, Avery Smith, Claudine Walker, Eugenia Williams, Mattie Williams and Joyce Wright.

Thelma Davis, Lela Eaton, and Betty Nixon Barry along with the support of other club members, the Flint Adult Club and Beta Psi Clubs organized two Youth Clubs (GLAC Mr. B&P Club and the GLAC Youth Club) in April 1984, which later became inactive. In 2005, the GLAC Youth Club charter was reactivated through the efforts of Shirley Willis, Betty Nixon Barry, Gloria Davis, Dorothy Hudson and Donna Farrow.

Members of GLAC-NANBPWC, Incorporated mission is to be involved, constant, cooperative, enthusiastic and concerned about the social ills affecting the youth and our community. Members help to promote the interest of business and professional women and invest in the willing service of others.

In harmony with our national organization, the importance of education and economic development through entrepreneurship is emphasized as women seek to support each other through community service and social activism. Our goals are to provide opportunities for women to integrate their leadership skills, experience governance and parliamentary procedures and enhance their educational awareness of issues impacting the African American community through volunteerism. Youth and young adults are encouraged to achieve economic independence by joining the rising tide of youngsters in business today. GLAC supports our International Affairs District which operates in Africa and the Caribbean. Members recognize that we can make a difference by sharing our blessings.

The very concept of sharing is integral to a sense of community. While it is the responsibility of everyone to make the most of his or her life, it is the responsibility of the larger community to provide the conditions that encourage success, a healthy, stable environment and opportunities for educational and economic achievement. Our members are among the most dynamic business and professional women in the country. The diversity of our membership includes women who are administrators, bankers, educators, entrepreneurs, executives, financial, medical, legal, corporate and government professionals that benefit from the wealth of experience which the NANBPWC, Inc. holistic membership provides. Additionally, the GLAC-NANBPWC, Inc. membership offers numerous networking opportunities, the ability to share expertise and resources, and hands-on volunteer involvement through activities and programs that support our communities.
